Double-glazed windows for heat insulation

Double-glazed windows are used for glazing windows of residential and commercial premises , and also for glazing doors and facade.

The main function of double-glazed windows – heat insulation of premises, thus saving heat energy and reducing heating costs.

For better heat insulation, we recommend the use of glass with a selective coating, which provides about twice as better heat insulation than the “ordinary” glass. Selective coating transmits thermal radiation from the outside (in the form of infra-red rays), but does not allow radiation of heat from inside out.

To provide even better thermal insulation, air space between the glass panes can be filled with an inert gas, usually, argon is used.

You can also make double-chamber windows, which consist of three panes.

Usually, in the manufacture glass of 4 or 6 mm is used, and thickness of the airspace between the panes is usually from 6 up to 22mm.

Loss of heat in the room is measured with the value of the U – coefficient of thermal conductivity, which is expressed in units W/m2K, the lower the value U, the better is heat insulation.

The U-value depends on:

  • The number and width of the gaskets (single-and double-chamber windows)
  • Filling of the chamber: the air or inert gas (argon)

Double-glazed window for protection

Double glazed windows can also perform a protective function, i.e. make it difficult to brake into the room.

In this case, the glazing must use special safety glass:Double-glazed window

Laminated glass – is made of two or more panes of glass, which are joined together by a polymer film (PVB) or a special resin.

Glass laminated with security film – when the security transparent film is glued to a sheet of glass.

Tempered glass – if the glass is heated up to a temperature of 650-700’C, and then rapidly cooled with the flow of cold air from both sides, it makes the glass 4-5 times stronger than usual.

The aforementioned glass provides high level of protection against breaking in and attacks. Such glass can be used not only in banks, offices and institutions, but also in private homes.

Advantages of tempered glass:

  • Braking into small pieces, it protects a person from injuries with sharp fragments of glass;
  • Eliminates the formation of thermal shock inside the windows – strong endurance to temperature variations;
  • Greater resistance to stress than ordinary glass;

Advantages of laminated glass:

  • Reduces the risk of injury if a person accidentally crashed into it;
  • In case of breakage, the glass remains attached to the polyvinyl butiralovoy (PVB) film;
